Many mosaic artists use related color tiles or imagery to create one final image. John Engen takes a more unconventional approach to his unique mosaic style by using his own unrelated works of art to create the final image. The individual pieces that comprise his ingenious perspective of the subject have many different themes, mediums, and styles that are distinct from the final project.
Upon closer observation of each mosaic the viewer can see the art within the art. The more time you spend observing the work, the more there is to discover. The appreciation of each original piece of art work is equal to the enjoyment of the total image. The experience of witnessing many small, original creations coming together as one is the beauty of John’s mosaics.
